Asian stock markets declined amid intensified selling in US semiconductor shares and investor caution ahead of the US midterm elections. The MSCI Asia Pacific index fell 1.1%, while South Korea’s technology-heavy Kospi recorded the steepest drop, sliding 3.6%.
Chinese markets also closed lower, with the Shanghai Composite down 0.8% and Shenzhen falling 1.15%. The losses came despite the central bank saying it would encourage financial institutions to make greater use of tools to support the stock market and improve their terms, as authorities seek to strengthen market stability.
Japanese markets were closed for a holiday.
