Brazil recorded a net foreign exchange inflow of US$18.151 billion in October, the largest monthly total of the year, according to preliminary data released Wednesday by the Central Bank. The month included both rounds of the country’s presidential election.
The financial channel accounted for a net inflow of US$8.812 billion. It covers transactions including foreign direct and portfolio investment, profit remittances and interest payments. The trade channel, which tracks exports and imports, posted a positive balance of US$9.339 billion.
The figures are part of the Central Bank’s contracted-exchange statistics. In the week from October 26 to 30, Brazil received net inflows of US$9.498 billion. That period followed the presidential election’s second round, in which Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defeated Flávio Bolsonaro.
