Property prices in Colmar, the Haut-Rhin prefecture and Alsace's third commune with 66,000 residents, have held steady over the past year and are more than 10% higher than five years ago, according to the listings and estimates site Meilleurs Agents. The city ranks behind Strasbourg, with 293,000 residents, and Mulhouse, with 104,000.

Average prices in Colmar stand at just under €3,000 per square metre, compared with less than €2,000 per square metre in Mulhouse, the data show.

Local real estate agents have nevertheless observed a slowdown in the market in recent months. Karin Geiller, a real estate adviser with the IAD network in Colmar, said buyers lack confidence to commit, but that properties generally sell when they are priced correctly.
