Commerzbank reported a record net profit of €2.7 billion for the first nine months of 2026, up 41% from the same period a year earlier. Third-quarter profit increased 45% to €859 million.

Revenue for the first nine months rose 8% to €9.7 billion, while third-quarter revenue was up 9% to €3.2 billion. The bank said a significant reduction in provisions for legal risks related to foreign-currency loans at mBank also contributed positively to revenue.

Commerzbank reaffirmed its target of at least €3.4 billion in net profit for the full year and revenue of about €13.2 billion. Chief Executive Bettina Orlopp said the record result demonstrated the bank’s ability to deliver on its commitments and highlighted its business potential.

The bank’s cost-to-income ratio improved to 53%, including mandatory contributions, and 50% excluding them. Its risk result for the nine-month period was minus €554 million, which Commerzbank said was in line with expectations.

Commerzbank began a further share buyback in early September, with a maximum value of €1.2 billion. It has repurchased shares equivalent to about 70% of the planned volume.
