A petition calling for CNews to be removed from French broadcasting had collected more than 750,000 signatures on the National Assembly’s website by the end of Tuesday, November 3. The total makes a debate in the Assembly chamber possible under parliamentary rules, but does not guarantee one will take place.
The National Assembly’s Committee on Cultural Affairs and Education is due to vote during the week beginning November 9 on whether to recommend a public debate or dismiss the petition. A source within the committee said dismissal remained the more likely outcome, barring a last-minute change.
The petition was posted on June 10, 2026, by an individual identified as Lucas Massoni. It gained momentum after the racist attack in Trappes, Yvelines, on October 23, which killed one person and injured seven. Calls to sign the petition spread on social media following the attack.
