Lufthansa Group reported record revenue of €12.2 billion for the third quarter, up 9% from a year earlier. Adjusted operating profit reached €1.4 billion, a 6% increase, despite a significant rise in fuel costs of €543 million compared with the previous year.

Net profit rose by around €300 million to €1.3 billion, from €966 million. The group attributed the improvement to stronger operating results and positive valuation effects, as well as a negative tax effect in the same period last year.

Chief Executive Carsten Spohr said high demand and strict cost discipline helped the group largely offset the increase in fuel expenses. He described the quarter as Lufthansa’s strongest ever for revenue.
