Snam commemorated 85 years of service to Italy on October 30, marking the founding date of the Società Nazionale Metanodotti in 1941. The company held a special event at the Auditorium della musica in Rome to honor this milestone, attended by President Sergio Mattarella and several government ministers including Andrea Abodi, Matteo Piantedosi, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, and Antonio Tajani.

The anniversary served as an opportunity to review a history deeply intertwined with Italy's economic and industrial evolution. According to the company, Snam conceived, designed, and executed the progressive methanization of the country under the leadership of Enrico Mattei, who served as president from 1949 until his death in 1962. The development of methane fields in the Po Valley and the construction of the first pipeline network laid the groundwork for Italy's economic boom, while the national expansion of infrastructure helped drive development in Southern Italy.

Today, Snam operates across various components of the gas system, ranging from transport to storage and regasification. Its network now exceeds 38,000 kilometers both within Italy and abroad. Recent investments include new regasifiers, the Adriatic Line, a carbon capture and storage project in Ravenna, and the consolidation of storage facilities. The company noted that its storage sites are currently filled to over 90% in preparation for the upcoming winter season, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance system security and flexibility.
