Wall Street opened higher on the eve of the U.S. midterm elections. The vote is being closely watched as President Donald Trump seeks to retain control of Congress, while polls point to a likely Democratic victory in the House of Representatives and a more uncertain outcome in the Senate.
The Dow Jones rose 0.76% in early trading to 52,164.02 points. The Nasdaq gained 0.61% to 25,592.49 points, while the S&P 500 increased 0.43% to 7,612.36 points.
The advance came as oil prices fell amid increased contacts between the United States and Iran through intermediaries.
