Gold climbed after the US vote, with investors shifting away from riskier assets and toward the traditional safe haven. Bullion rose 2.6% to $4,007 an ounce.
Cryptocurrencies were weak amid concerns that they could face less favorable legislation and greater skepticism from Democrats. Bitcoin fell as much as 2.8% to $75,600 before trading at around $77,700, little changed from its previous level.
Treasuries also advanced, pushing yields down by nearly three basis points to 4.93%. The move reflected expectations that a standoff between Congress and the presidency could restrain the expansion of the US public debt.
