Milan’s FTSE MIB rose 2.05% to 50,960 points, as banking shares advanced and Italian government bond yields declined. The gains came amid a positive mood across markets following the U.S. election result, which President Donald Trump did not contest, and easing concerns about an escalation in Iran.
Intesa Sanpaolo and UniCredit each gained 4.6%. Fineco and Buzzi rose 4.1%, Bper added 4%, and Mps climbed 3.9%.
In the bond market, the yield on 10-year Italian BTPs fell by seven basis points to 4.39%. The spread between BTPs and German Bunds narrowed by almost five points to 108.
Defence and aerospace shares bucked the broader gains: Avio fell 3.2%, Leonardo lost 1.9%, and Fincantieri declined 1.6%.
