Italy’s space industry needs stronger international alliances and access to global value chains, according to Giorgio Marsiaj, Confindustria’s vice president for aerospace. Speaking at the Space Economy States General at Italy’s Foreign Ministry, Marsiaj described space diplomacy as a form of industrial diplomacy measured by companies’ ability to build partnerships abroad.

Confindustria will travel to the United States from December 6 to 15 with the Italian Trade Agency, in coordination with the Italian Embassy in Washington. The mission will focus on four industrial ecosystems: Washington and Maryland, Arizona, Indiana, and North Carolina. Its aim is to support Italian companies seeking entry into US supply chains.

Marsiaj said the sector’s industrial base must be turned into new business opportunities. He also called for stable coordination between institutions and industry, secure supplies, and clear and consistent national and European rules that do not hinder cooperation or competitiveness.

According to figures cited by Marsiaj, Italy has a competitive space supply chain. Between 2021 and 2024, the revenue of the mapped space companies increased from €1.9 billion to €3.1 billion, while employment grew from approximately 5,900 to nearly 9,000 workers.
